Frederic Remington, an American artist (1861-1909) considered to be the greatest illustrator of the Old American West.
The two antique Collier prints I am offering are night scenes, called ‘nocturnes’. Remington had a fascination with painting the color of night, and as you can see, he did it remarkably well.
In 1903 a contract between Frederic Remington and Collier’s Magazine was made. Under this agreement, Remington would create and retain original oil paintings and sell the reproduction rights to Collier’s.
